We have decided to hold the Triple Crown events again this year. The dates for these three events, held on Sunday mornings during the regular practice times beginning at 6:30am, will be November 19, December 17, and January 14. I have changed the timing from last year to ensure that the previous conflicts (Bay Bridge 10k Walk-Run, Carol Chidester meets and New Years morning) were not an issue this year.
For those of you who are new to this, an explanation: Each of the three events will consist of intervals on 1:30. You will swim a distance that you can complete during that time and still be able to get some rest, whether it is 100 yards, 75 yards, 50 yards, or alternating distances as needed. All I ask is that you push off the wall every 90 seconds. The first event will be 50 intervals, lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes. The second event will consist of 75 intervals, 1 hour and 52.5 minutes. The third and final session will be 100 intervals on the 1:30, lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Some other points:
· * You may use equipment as needed…IE: fins, pull buoy, etc.
· * You can do any stroke or change strokes.
· * Lanes will be assigned for specific distances.
You alone will track your yardage, you can make this as easy or as difficult as you want. You can do a lot of yardage in a very short amount of time, if you really push yourself. This is a chance to challenge yourself in a way that you cannot during a regular practice.
Also, please note that I have not had an opportunity to obtain sponsors, so there will be no t-shirts this year, although I do still have a few Small size shirts left from last year that I will give to those folks who can use one and did not get one last year.
Nancy Brown and I have also discussed the possibility of a potluck luncheon on deck following the final event, more on that later.
